Country Director

Role Description The Country Director at StayOwn will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all activities in Rwanda, with a primary base in Kigali. This part-time hybrid role requires regular presence in the Kigali office combined with flexibility to work from home when appropriate. Day-to-day responsibilities include setting country-level goals, overseeing program planning and execution, and ensuring alignment with StayOwn’s global strategy and standards. The Country Director will manage local partnerships, represent the organization with key stakeholders and authorities, and lead business development and fundraising efforts. Additional responsibilities include monitoring budgets, ensuring compliance with local regulations, guiding risk management, and leading and mentoring a small cross-functional team to achieve measurable impact.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, including the ability to motivate, coach, and develop diverse teams.
• Strong strategic planning and organizational skills, with experience setting priorities, managing projects, and delivering results in a dynamic environment.
• Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship-building capabilities, including partnership development with government, donors, and community organizations.
• Solid financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and basic financial analysis for country operations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Kinyarwanda and/or French is an asset.
• Experience working in Rwanda or the broader East African region, with familiarity with local regulatory and business environments.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid setting, balancing office-based responsibilities in Kigali with remote work as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, International Development, Public Administration, or a related field; a master’s degree is an advantage.
• Prior experience in a country director, regional manager, or senior program leadership role within a mission-driven or growth-focused organization.

Compensation

This is not a salaried employee position. The Country Director operates under a commission-based agreement and is rewarded based on the growth and performance of StayOwn in Rwanda. Compensation is tied to business generated through the platform, partnerships, and local market development, offering significant earning potential for entrepreneurial leaders. As the business grows, the Country Director will play a key role in establishing StayOwn's local legal entity and leading its long-term expansion.
