Job Summary

Responsible for the strategic direction and tactical follow-through for all of AHN’s dialysis operations in Rwanda (currently 4 clinics). Full accountability of the P&L, as well as all issues related to clinical outcomes, team management/culture, and growth. This role sits on the senior executive team across East Africa and reports directly to the group-level Chief Executive Officer. The Country Director will oversee and manage day-to-day operations across the country. S/he will liaise with other AHN offices and the global team, as well as investors, suppliers and other in-country partners.

Strategy Formulation & Execution:

·      Ensure that clinics are operated with sound managerial, technical, and financial practices, and that the processes and activities adhere to the organizational policies, legal and contractual obligations, and global AHN standards.

·      Partner with the CEO in defining the Country’s overall strategy, develop clear operational plans for execution, and continually identify opportunities for AHN to add value and maximize impact.

·      Work with senior management to establish and maintain robust policies and systems, ensuring they are aligned with global policies and are in compliance with local law.

·      Identify areas within AHN technical teams (biomedical, medical, clinical operations, center management) where we can improve operations, reduce costs while improving care outcomes, and work with senior leadership to roll out improvements.

Financial Management:

·      Own the P&L for the Rwandan operations.

·      Oversee the financial management of the various clinics working alongside the local finance lead, including monthly cash flow and financial reporting, audits, cash allocations, and budget forecasting and planning.

Leadership & Administration:

·      Oversee internal management of the country’s daily operations, including contracting with vendors, ensuring compliance with local laws, and interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.

·      Plan and execute specific initiatives as developed with the cross-country functional leaders.

·      Coordinate regular meetings with staff and provide training, feedback and mentoring.

·      Undertake other country tasks as the CEO may direct from time to time.

Business Development:

·      Ensure delivery of new centers on schedule and within budget.

·      Identify, assess and establish additional partnerships as appropriate.

·      Strategize and execute on initiatives to increase volumes.

External Relations:

·      Nurture relationships and liaise professionally with government partners, corporate, multilateral and public institutions, and maintain a thorough understanding of the health landscape in the country.

·      Develop communication materials, make presentations and represent AHN at public forums in Rwanda.

·      Maintain appropriate bi-directional communication with AHN headquarters to ensure that global capabilities are being fully leveraged.

Desired Competencies:

·      Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

·   At least 10 years of work experience with increasing levels of responsibility, leadership and P&L ownership

·      Passion and interest in global healthcare systems

·     Ability to work in a highly regulated industry and develop strong relationships with government and multilateral organizations

·     Ability to work independently and effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision; set priorities, delegate and work independently

·      Experience conceiving, planning and executing complex programs or projects with verifiable results

·      Exceptional communication, analytical and problem-solving skills

·      Ability to mentor and lead teams for strong, consistent performance

·      Strong work ethic and flexibility, respectful of local norms and culture, ability to work with humility and urgency

·      High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
