Role Description
The Director of Fundraising is a full-time, on-site role based in Kigali, responsible for leading all fundraising and development initiatives that support IAT’s growth and sustainable tourism impact. This role oversees the design and execution of fundraising strategies, including cultivating relationships with major donors, philanthropic organizations, corporate partners, and institutional funders. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing annual giving programs, preparing compelling proposals and donor communications, managing fundraising campaigns and events, and tracking performance against revenue targets. The Director of Fundraising collaborates closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to align fundraising priorities with organizational strategy, conservation and community projects, and brand positioning. The role also involves maintaining accurate donor records, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and reporting on fundraising outcomes and impact to internal stakeholders and supporters.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess skills in engaging and managing Major Donors, including cultivation, stewardship, and long-term relationship building.
  • Candidates should possess strong Communication skills, including the ability to craft persuasive narratives, develop donor materials, and present confidently to diverse audiences.
  • Candidates should possess knowledge of Philanthropy and the fundraising landscape, with experience working with foundations, NGOs, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
  • Candidates should possess experience in Annual Giving, including planning, executing, and evaluating recurring campaigns and donor programs.
  • Candidates should possess Strategic Planning skills to design and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Additional beneficial qualifications include experience in tourism, conservation, or community development; proficiency in donor management or CRM systems; and demonstrated ability to meet fundraising targets.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Communications, International Relations, or a related field is preferred, along with prior leadership experience in fundraising or development.
