Manufacturing Sector Specialist / Industrial Operations Consultant

ISD Consulting is expanding its roster of experts for potential project-based advisory assignments in Rwanda and East Africa. We are looking to connect with experienced experts who can support manufacturing sector assessments, industrial value chain analysis, operational performance reviews and investment opportunity assessments. The expert may be engaged to provide technical, sectoral or analytical input depending on the final scope of specific assignments.

Possible areas of contribution may include:

• analysis of manufacturing sector trends, market structure, growth drivers and investment opportunities;
• identification of priority manufacturing subsectors and value chain opportunities;
• assessment of commercial attractiveness, competitiveness, operational risks and investment viability;
• review of production processes, operational efficiency, quality control, inventory management and supply chain issues, where relevant;
• assessment of cost drivers, productivity, maintenance practices, energy/fuel use and operational improvement opportunities, where relevant;
• contribution to investment frameworks, sector reports, management presentations and practical recommendations.

Relevant expertise may include one or more of the following:

• manufacturing sector analysis, industrial development, production management, industrial engineering or manufacturing investment advisory;
• experience with factory-level assessments, operational performance, cost efficiency, quality control, maintenance or productivity improvement;
• knowledge of construction materials, building materials, clay products, ceramics, bricks, tiles, cement, agro-processing, textiles or other light manufacturing sectors;
• exposure to energy-intensive manufacturing, fuel use, energy efficiency, kilns, furnaces or thermal processes would be an advantage;
• experience in Rwanda, East Africa or other emerging markets would be an advantage;
• ability to prepare clear analytical inputs, practical recommendations and investor-oriented reports.

Education and qualifications:

• Degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, operations management, business, economics, finance, industrial development or a related field.
• Additional qualifications in production management, quality management, supply chain management, energy efficiency, industrial development, investment analysis or project appraisal would be an advantage.
• Equivalent professional experience may also be considered.

Professional experience:

• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, industrial development, investment advisory, sector analysis, factory diagnostics or related fields.
• Experience in preparing analytical reports, feasibility studies, investment assessments, operational reviews, market assessments or strategy documents would be an advantage.
• Prior work with private sector clients, investors, development finance institutions, consulting firms, government agencies or industrial companies would be considered an asset.

Skills and competencies:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to translate technical or sectoral findings into practical business and investment recommendations.
• Good understanding of operational, commercial and financial drivers in manufacturing.
• Ability to work independently and deliver concise written inputs.
• Strong written and spoken English.
